What I've just finished reading

In a tweet: Eleanor & Park don't fit in with anyone or fit in anywhere. Except maybe with each other.

Why you should read it: It's boy meets girl in a whole brave new way. It's heartbreaking first love between two teenagers who never thought they'd get a chance.

Extra bit: Author Rainbow Rowell was uninvited to speak at a school because this book was deemed obscene. I couldn't breathe for a moment when I read that. An excellent article was written on the matter - here's an excerpt below:

The world is full of young people who feel peripheral, excluded, “other,” who do not see themselves in the pages of their favorite books, or on screen as they watch their favorite television shows and films. There’s something revolutionary about telling young men and women who don’t see themselves represented “Here you are. Here. In my book."

  1. Just picked up this story from Twitter after "concerned parents" wanted to ban Eleanor and Park from a school but fortunately sanity prevailed - read the full story here: http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/books/233110011.html
