A shelf life: revamping our English section

As part of my on-going project to revamp our non-fiction area, this term I did a bit of shifting around and got our literature section  - mainly poetry and Shakespeare - to fit on one side of the bookshelves, where before it had trailed around the corner.

I pulled out all the books and checked they were correctly catalogued and made changes where appropriate, added new signs and gave the shelves a little lick of paint, and it's done!

Of course, the proof is in the pudding - over the next couple of weeks, Grade 8s will be doing a Shakespeare task and the Grade 10s have a poetry project to complete, so I'll be able to get some feedback then.

Next stop, our drama section!

Are you making any non-fiction changes this year?

  1. I've also weeded and tidied up Literature this year. The English department have a lot of their own books so our books don't get much action, except the short stories. We're busy reducing our Reference section to just two shelves of language dictionaries and one or two other titles. The rest will be recatalogued to go in their Dewey section, passed on to the relevant departments, or sent to charities for their book sales. I am so excited that there will be more space for displays and series titles. There are more and more YA series and we like to keep them in the students' eyeline for impulse borrowing.
